Carpentry & Home Improvement Skills : How to Solder Copper Pipes

I’m Robert Markey. I’ve been doing construction
for many years. And we’re going to talk about soldering a copper pipe. The first thing you
need to do is take some sandpaper, sand down the surface of where the pipe is going into
the fitting. Flux gets put on.
The fitting gets put on
to whichever way it’s going to go. And certainly, be careful about flames and such. Use propane.
Solder. We heat the fitting. And you just kind of touch it when, see there it’s starting
to flow. Just go around it. You can take the heat off while the solder is being put on
there. And then you wipe the joint. And there it is. If you’re doing two from the same one,
you’re going to do them kind of one after the other. Then you got it. I’m Robert Markey.
And we’ve been soldering copper pipes.

  1. Clean the inside of the fitting with a wire brush or sand paper. Also, if you are dong a long run or multiple joints, do the heating and soldering last after the pipes are laid out and fitted together.
