Community Mural Project

“We’ll give one person a green and we’ll give one person a purple” They start lining up early. “I like painting and she likes painting. We like painting a lot” at 506 Art in the Downtown Garland Square. I love it. I live in the City and I love this City and I want them to love the City the same way I do. They are here, “Look, let’s start over here” to make their mark. “Are you ready to make your mark? Yes.” I think it’s pretty cool to just ee everybody just come together and create a big mural. The artist behind this giant paint by numbers mural is Cullen Lassiter. “Look at that beautiful stroke, there you go.” The Garland resident was commissioned by Garland’s Cultural Arts Commission to create a mural for everyone. “I’m really looking forward to it and I’m really that I’m investing myself into this community because I see it really coming up and becoming something that’s going to be really beautiful. in the next few years. “You’re part of it.” Yeah, I made my mark bro.” (laughing) Lassiter is also the artist behind another community mural in the Gatewood neighborhood at Oates and Duck Creek. This downtown mural, the picture perfect project, to kick off the Sound of Summer Concert Series. (ROCK MUSIC) (ROCK MUSIC) And what a great community we are. I’ve been here all my life. This is wonderful, I’ve never done anything like this before. We’re glad to see some creative things happening down here. We just invested in a new house. How exciting that we get to do this in our community while we’re growing our family too. (Music) The free concerts, hands on arts projects, activities on the square. Among the reasons Garland is quickly becoming a destination City. “Anything we can do to just get people out, get people outside, get people together, I mean this is perfect. We hope it brings lots of people, enthusiasm, and a sense of community for sure. Just stay within the lines. He says you don’t have to. Break the rules, break them! Doing it your way. On your terms. In a town that truly supports you. That’s what “Make Your Mark” is all about. “In Garland, you don’t have to stay between the lines. Here you do, but come to Garland and make your own mark. “You’ve got it dude. Nailed it.” So it’s a great way for us to be involved here with our community, and we come out to make our mark here, because that’s what we’re all placed on this earth to do, leave our mark.
