Decorating with Pallets

Decorating with Pallets

Decorating with pallets. We are making a really cool wall decoration
for my parents. It is their 50th anniversary. Congratulations to them. I’m making them a little pallet art for their
wall. Lets take a look at what I’ve done so far. First thing you want to do is build a frame. Actually that is not true. First thing I did was find all the pallet
boards I was going to use and then what I did was based on the size of the pallet boards,
I built a frame. Here is what my frame is. This piece here is from a pallet as well. Some of the pallets come cut out with this. I don’t know why but I thought it looked pretty
cool. I made the frame by drilling some holes. I counter sunk the screws because I didn’t
have long enough screws to go all the way through. So I used a larger drill and counter sunk
them about half way in so that is where the screws catch. I screwed each of these in to the cross beam. Once I was done with that, I laid it on its
back. Then I attached some flat pieces I had here. These are just thin boards. These help make the frame. Then I screwed those in. Also what I did I should mention before I
attached these I also put a little wood glue in there. It helps make it a little bit stronger. After those two steps I flipped it back over. Then I screwed in these little cross beams. These pallet boards have these really cool
old rusty nails in them. I don’t want to put in any screws or add to
that. I want them to look like they have the old
rusty nails. That is why I put these cross beams because
I’m going to glue these in. So the next step is just to glue these here
here and here. First I’m going to find the pattern I like
and set these in and once I have the pattern then I will put a bead of glue down here and
then I will lay them in. As you can see I have laid out my pieces to
the puzzle and got them exactly where I want them. At this point I’m going to pull them off one
by one. What I will do I will flip them in place where
they are going to be. You want to keep them in order because they
might not fit if you move them around. I’m going to put in a real generous layer
of glue. I have some extra glue here. I wanted to make sure I had enough so I’m
going to really get it good. There is nothing holding these except for
the glue. No screws will be holding these in. Now that I have my glue in, next thing that
I will do is flip the boards back over. and the last piece to the puzzle, beautiful! What you need to do is apply weight to these. I will look around and see what heavy objects
I can lay on these. You probably want these to dry overnight for
the best hold. So what I’ve got here is established June
11th 1966. That is when they were married. Dios es amor. God is love. This is a little metal thing I got for 10
cents at a garage sale and I have the last name here. There are the birds I stenciled on and a little
branch. I have their initials. I used a painted stencil. I pressed it against it to leave a grungy
residue. That is the flag. I painted a little bird on top of the L. The
last thing I’m going to do is attach this cool chain. It is an old rusty metal black chain. I’m going to attach this to the top and that
will be how they hang it to the wall. This is how I attached the chain. I used two ;screws with big heads so they
won’t slip through the metal on each side. That is how it is going to hang. Hosea 2:19
