DIY Centerpiece | Home Decor Craft | Apostrophe S | Recycled Romance

Hi, this is Jill with Apostrophe S and today
I’m going to show you how to put together our Recycled Romance kit. You’ll receive two,
enough stuff to make two of these in your kit. It’s a romance novel that’s folded in
to kind of a decoration center piece kind of thing and it looks like a pillar candle
with kind of a shabby-chic look. So I’ll show you how to put these together. What you’ll
receive in your kit is the romance novel and all of the ribbon and trim that you will need.
What we suggest that you do is get a glue gun, some really good fabric scissors and
then a pair of paper scissors. You’ll need both kinds of scissors for this project. Okay. So first of all what we do is you take your
book and you rip the cover off the book so that it has no cover. And rip, oh, a couple
of pages out of the center of the book. Trim the plain edges off so you just see the print
and set those aside. So what I’m going to do is take it by two, or three, or four pages
at a time, and I’m going to fold them right in to the middle and just crease them and
fold them all so they’re going the same direction. In this instance I’m folding them away from
me. And you just go along the book like that all the way along so that it’s all folded
like that. And then you’ll start pulling those apart and doing them singly. That just kind
of gets to book to curl and then you can do them singly and really crease them well. If
you want to do them all singly first off, you’re totally free to do that. You’ll notice
I don’t even need any glue. It just curls in on itself really simply. Then I’m going
to set that aside. With these sheets, once I cut these edges off, so that there’s no
trim, or excuse me, no print, I’m going to ruffle up this paper, these pages and I’m
going to cut them into a couple of little thin strips and then some wider strips so
that they look like this. And I’ll set those aside. Okay. Once I have my book column folded, I’m
going to pull out all of the ribbon trim. And the ribbon trim has enough in it that
I can take it all and cut it in half. This is half of this long black piece and half
of this. I’ve got the other halves laid aside for the second column. So what I do is I place
the lacy part on the bottom, the black part on the top and I simply wrap it around the
book column and I adhere it with hot glue back here. Okay? Then what I do is I take all of the rest of
the trim that has been cut in half. Again, I’ve got lengths this long for the other book
and there’s burlap and linen and this upholstery kind of ribbon and trim, some satin trim.
And I take all of these and I layer them just kind of on top of each other, just kind of
not anything real contrived, just really simply and I tie them with this ribbon, or excuse
me, with this linen thread, so that they look like this. And then all you do is adhere those
to the front of your book column with hot glue so that it looks like this, really simple,
really quick, and it’s just a really fun kind of centerpiece, kind of decoration. So that’s all there is to it. Thanks so much
for coming today to learn how to make Recycled Romance. Apostrophe S…make it yours.
