Download vs. Framed Print vs. Canvas – Mosaically

in this video I’m going to show you all the differences between buying the download print, framed print, and canvas wrap and help you figure out which is the best for your situation buying the download is for people who need it today if you need a gift that day anniversary is tomorrow and you forgot to get a gift then your best option is to buy the download, run to a local print shop, have it printed that day, frame it, give it to your gift recipient it’s also good for if you don’t want to have to wait for international shipping this is a 36” x 24” (inch) framed print, white space of 1.5 inches at the top or on the sides depending on the exact aspect ratio of your mosaic that’s why it’s important to optimize your mosaic for a specific print size in step 3. if this is too big for you the next size down is exactly half of this 24 by 18 inches. the advantage of bigger mosaic is that each of the small pictures can be bigger and you can fit more of them thereby giving you more resolution you can afford to pick a more complicated big picture the frame is made of solid wood the paper inside it is the Epson premium luster photo paper which is one of the best paper you can get if you look at the small pictures you can see that they’re all very sharp if you take a penny and put it right against it and get a close-up you’ll see that the small pictures are really sharp you have control over how big you can make your small pictures you want your small pictures to be about the size of the penny and if you think about it that way when it’s half the size that means half as many photos if you have a penny on here if you look at it it’ll give you an idea of how big that is and it’s covered in an acrylic panel now this is the best print that you can get but not the best frame so if you want the best then you want to order just a print and have it framed professionally that will give you the best results this is for those of you who do not want to spend two or three hundred dollars on frames just want to get some things that you can give to somebody to hang right away this is ready to get now this is the canvas version of the exact same mosaic canvas is framed in solid wood one of the advantages and disadvantages of a canvas is that this wraps around the sides so you have small pictures that you can see from the sides and in the front and some of the small pictures will actually end up hidden on the corner and some of it will end up in the back so that’s something to think about so example if you’re a teacher and you are making a mosaic of an artwork with faces of your students and you want all the faces of students to show up on the mosaic canvas is not the right way to go because you want to be able to see all the picture especially if you went through the trouble of making sure that every single picture in your mosaic is unique then the picture that’s hitting the corner is gone if that’s what you’re doing you definitely want to go with a framed print another thing to watch out for the canvas is that in the dark areas the more ink that is sprayed onto the canvas more saturated it gets and it does not do dark area as well as on the prints the print is able to render dark areas much better than a canvas so if you have a mosaic that has a dark background then canvas might not be the best thing for you and if you know for sure that you’re going to be hanging your mosaic somewhere where there’s a lot of lighting coming from all directions then canvas is going to be advantageous for you because framed is going to reflect even though the luster print is semi-gloss finished, the acrylic glass is going to reflect if you do go with a high-end print shop they have glasses with anti glare treatments just like eye glasses this does not have any of their problems but also because it’s not reflective it’s also not as vivid so keep that in mind and if you take a penny up close, your small pictures is not going to be as sharp as smooth texture it’s just there is no way to get around with that. if you want the sharpest picture as possible then go with the print or framed print. For the same mosaic taking up the entire 36 by 24 space as opposed to having a white space around your mosaic each of your small pictures are going to be just slightly bigger on your canvas over the frame print that’s another thing to consider to sum it up if you need the mosaic right away whether it’s for a gift or project then buy the download or if you’re outside of the United States and you don’t want to have to wait a long time for your mosaic to come then buy the download take it to a local print shop, make sure they don’t downsample it, make sure they use high quality paper and high quality ink if this is going to be a gift that stay on the wall for years but if it’s for a project that’s gonna be used for just one event then you can use whatever you want if you just want to be able to give something as a gift right away then go with either Framed Print or Canvas Wrap. if you don’t think the frame is quite good enough then you want to buy just a print and take that to your local frame shop and if your mosaic is dark go with a framed print if seeing every single one of your small pictures is important go with the Framed Print. if your mosaic is going to hang somewhere where there are a lot of lights then go with the Canvas. If you’re okay with slightly less sharp small pictures but what this gallery look go with the canvas wrap thank you for watching and I hope this was helpful in figuring out which is the best for your situation
