Home Improvement & Maintenance : How to Extract a Broken Key

Hello, this is Oscar Moreno with Moreno Custom
Home Visions and today we’re going to teach you guys how to remove a broken key from a
lock. Real easy tools that we’re going to need that everybody has, is just a real normal
fish hook, simple as can be, and of course just a real simple set of pliers. Basically
all this takes is just a little messing with, and you have to use the point of the hook
and try the grab a corner of the key to extract it. It might take a couple of tries, but once
you got the key to come out at least an eighth of an inch out of its socket, then, you can
use your pliers, go ahead and grab onto the key, pull it right out. If you take your key,
and the remaining piece of your broken key to your local locksmith, they can make you
a brand new one all over again. And that’s how you remove a broken key from a lock.

  1. I used a fish hook and a pair of needlenose pliers. I broke the key off in a expensive pad lock I purchased reciently for my storage shed. It worked like a charm.

Thank you for your video and your help.

  2. I straightened  a smaller hook .slid it past the first pin and the broken key pulled right out. took longer to get the knob set off the door.
