Home Improvement & Maintenance : How to Prepare a Room for Painting

Hello, my name’s Oscar Moreno, with Moreno
Custom Home Visions, and today, we’re going to teach you guys how to prep a room for paint.
Basic supplies are going to be real simple; just masking tape. Also, you’re going to need;
for professional use, much quicker application, you will use a masking tape and a paper dispenser
all at the same time. Goes up a little quicker. And to protect your floor you’re going to
need a tarp just to cover the floor for splatter. One more thing you’re going to use is just
a simple flathead screwdriver to get all these plates off the wall, okay? First thing what
we’re going to want to do is to remove the wall plate covers. After removing the wall
plate covers it’s always a good idea to throw a piece of tape over the front of the outlet
cover just to make sure accidental rollovers don’t happen. Now, second thing you’re going
to want to do is go ahead and mask off your trim all along the bottom, okay? Third of
all, you’re going to want to cover all existing doorknobs that you really don’t want paint
on. Always like again, again use the blue tape for that, okay. Finally, what we’re going
to do is to cover our floor , and just a real simple piece of one millimeter plastic, or
a heavy duty tarp will do just the same. Basically, we’re just trying to eliminate oversplatter
from the roller rolling down onto our brand new carpet or so on, okay. Now, you’re ready
to paint your room.
