Home Improvement & Maintenance Tips : How to Fix an Electric Oven That Heats Poorly

Hi I’m Tim Gipson, I’m going to talk to you
about how to fix an oven that is heating poorly. Now if it’s a modern oven like this there’s
a couple of things that could be the trouble if it’s not heating well. The first is the
elements inside. And how you can tell that is you want to put it on a very high setting
– say about four fifty. And hit your start, and this will start the center element on
the top, and will start the element on the bottom. And what you want to look for as this
heats up is you want to watch around. It should turn a reddish color, all the way around the
element. Now if you see any dark spots or spots that stay black, then that’s an indication
that you’ve got a problem with your element. And then of course to check the full top one,
you’ll have to put it on the broil setting. In this case if you put in on high then all
the elements on the top would come on. Now if you get to the point where you do determine
it is one of your elements that has gone bad. It’s simply held in with a couple of screws
in the back of the oven, so you’d remove those two screws, you can pull the element end out.
And then you can get it at any home improvement, hardware store or if it happens to be a Kenmore
appliance like this – then you can get those replacement parts at Sears parts outlet or
typically at the Sears store themselves. So I’m Tim Gipson, and that’s how to troubleshoot
your oven that may be heating slowly.
