Home Improvement & Repair Tips : How to Fix Mini Blinds

Hi, I’m James with JNC Home Repair, today
I’m going to show you how to troubleshoot common window shade or mini blind problems.
Most common problem, in the house, with mini blinds or window shades, as you can see, we’ve
got some damaged blades down here. If you’ve got kids, like I do, this is going to happen
from time to time, especially with small children. Also, we’ve got another problem up here where
the rod attaches, that actually opens and closes the blinds, that actually directs the
light up or down, that rod mechanism is damaged and when you turn it back and forth, it actually
won’t open the blinds. You can see that the blinds are just stuck in this position, they
won’t rotate and that’s another common problem. The other common problem is you can a problem
here with the strings, about going up and down. This particular shade, right here, it
actually works fairly well, this part of it, but the rest of it is just totally gone so
what we’re going to do is we’re going to go ahead and replace it. If you go ahead and
replace it with the same kind of blind that you had, if you know the name brand that you
have, you can also just get the same type name brand and you won’t have to replace the
brackets. All you’ll have to do is remove the tabs that are on the brackets, pull the
mini blind out, go back in with your new mini blind and that’s all you’ll have to do, it’s
a simple process. You won’t have to worry about pulling those brackets off, re anchoring
it, causing a bunch of holes and then you try to go back with a new bracket and it won’t
mount right because the drywall is already tore up. So, it’s a good idea just to leave
your brackets where they are, if you can, if you’ve got the same kind of mini blind
and just replace it that way.
