Home Improvement & Repair Tips : Removing Wedding Rings From a Sink Drain

Hi, I’m James with JNC home repair. Today
I’m going to show you how to get your wedding ring out of the kitchen sink. This is a common
problem. Wedding ring, you know you’re washing dishes or something. You take your ring off,
then it accidentally slips down the sink and goes down the drain. A lot of people might
panic at first, thought of this, but if you just immediately turn your water off. Of course,
you’re not going to know this is happening at the time, but if you just restrain from
running the water too much, there’s a good chance you can get your ring back. And it’s
fairly simple procedure. All you’ll need basically is just a pair of channel locks, and what
you’re going to do is this is basically a P trap that’s on the bottom of a sink. All
sinks have them, all sinks in bathrooms, or kitchens have them. So if it happens in the
bathroom it’ll work there as well. And what happens is the drain is up here, and the ring
will actually fall down the drain and it will, it’ll stop, and it’ll be down here in the
bottom of the P trap. OK? It’ll just be sitting there. Now, if you’re constantly running water,
a whole bunch of water, there’s a chance that you could actually push all the water running
down could actually push the ring up and out to the sewer. Hopefully that hasn’t happened
and you’ve got a good chance of getting your ring back. First thing you want to do is you
want to remove these two nuts from the P trap and actually disconnect the P trap. Just like
so. After you’ve got it removed, this thing is going to be full of water. It constantly
holds water. But you should be able just to pour it out and your ring should fall right
out.
