How to Decorate a Dorm Room | Interior Design

So when you’re away at college or if you’re
past that, and you have children at college or you know somebody that just needs some
helpful hints, there’s a couple of guidelines. Obviously, you’re sharing a room with other
people and so make sure that you have your own zone. Because even though you have to co-habit with
people, you really want to make sure that you feel like you’re your own person and you
have your own space. So have a different type of bedding for each
side of the room. Make sure that if you’re sharing a desk, keep
it neat. A simple desk is easy, and also have little
carry pods that you can have for your own stuff, so whether it’s for toiletries or paperwork
or things, pencils, erasers, stuff that you would normally use. But you’re sharing space, like bathrooms and
a desk, so make sure you have your own area and a little carry-on would be easy, that
you can tuck into your closet. Since you can’t paint the walls in a dormitory,
a lot of the decals that you find online have different graphics and designs, that you literally
can peel and put right on the wall, and then take with you when you’re done. It’ll make a room feel warm and habitable,
but at the same time you’re not breaking the rules. And then lastly, I know it’s easy to put posters
all over the place, but just make sure that if you’re sharing your space with somebody
else you don’t have two completely, different themes going on. It’ll make you feel like you’re more in a
home than you are in a dormitory. So talk a little bit with your partner and
make sure that your artwork or color pallet that you’re going after, at least makes sense
to the both of you. So that it just feels like one cohesive room
and it doesn’t feel like you’re walking into a big mess. At the end of the day, I think that it’s going
to make you feel like, even though you’re away from home, that you really are home.
