How to Install Outside-Mount Vertical Window Blinds | The Home Depot

Vertical blinds are easy to install. In
this short video you will learn how to install them. A screwdriver is all that’s
needed to install your blinds or for an easier installation you can use a
cordless screwdriver or drill with a quarter inch hex head bit. Before
starting, carefully unpack your blinds and mounting hardware to familiarize
yourself with the contents of your box. Check the printed instructions included
with your product. From the point at the bottom of your window where you want your
blind to hang, measure up to the top of the window the length of the blind that
you ordered. Make a pencil mark at the top of your measurement and center your
headrail on the mark. Make a mark 4 inches in from each end of the headrail.
Align the top of your left bracket along the inside of your pencil line and
fasten to the wall with the supplied screws. Rotate the clip at the end of the
mounting bracket to make it easier to install your screws Repeat on the right side and for any
additional brackets. Hook the front of your head roll into the brackets and
rotate back until it snaps into place. The portion of the vertical blind that
rotates is called a vane to make it easy to install the vanes begin by spacing
the vane stem evenly by pulling the cord. Pull the chain to rotate the openings in
the stems so that they face you. Attach the first vane by gently sliding it up
into the plastic stem until it snaps into place. Repeat until all vanes are attached. Install the safety bracket to keep your
cord fairly taught. Install the bracket near the outside bottom of your window
frame where it will not interfere with the operation of your blind. Your blind may
come with a decorative cover called a valance. A valance is used to cover the
top mechanism of the blind and can be installed easily too. If your valance
comes with inserts for each section slide the insert into the edges along
the front of each one. Insert the valance ends into the corners
and attach to the front. Attach the included valance clips onto
the headroom and slide the balance on to the clips Finish by testing your new blinds.
Carefully pull down on the court to slowly open your blinds and then pull
the cord again to completely close them. Pull the beaded chain to rotate your
blind. And that’s it. If you still have questions about the
installation of your blinds just give us a call. It’s that easy.

  1. What if your doorway doesn't have a frame around it, and you're having to measure bracket height from the top of your carpet? Now it's a whole different ball game.

  2. Your tips helped me install. I couldn't figure it out with the instructions it came with. Took about 45 minutes. I couldn't get 1 screw in so I substitute it with a screw a tad bit shorter i had.

  3. As a commercial blind hanger, I recommend an impact drill with hex head bit. Measure the window from the bottom of the window sill to 2 inches above the top of the frame. Drive 2 screws per bracket to ensure maximum hold of the headrail. Hang the vanes with the clips at 45° angle to ensure they stay firmly in the clips.

  4. All I need is a screwdriver? BULLSHIT! And you never install blind brackets on the window trim!!! EVER! Who is this broad?

  5. yayyyyyyyy i did it thanks to your wonderful video this women did it too !!!!!!!! thank you so much this video was a godsend !!!!!
