How to make a collage. What adhesive glue to use

Hi. Welcome back. Today I’m going to show
you another use for the Atelier Binding Medium. Very, very versatile product. Has a lot of
different uses in your artworks. Today I’m gonna use it to create a collage. We’re using
the Binding Medium as an adhesive, and I’ve got images here that people have sent from
around the world, of different artworks they’ve created using the step-by-step abstract art
DVD series. So I’ll get myself set up and I’ll show you how simple it is to use the
Binding Medium as an adhesive for your collages. Our Binder Medium is very easy to use. I’ve
just poured some into a container, and all I’m doing is, with a brush, I’m just going
to paint some straight on, where I want my next image to go. We don’t want it overly
thick, but we do want to have a good covering so it’s underneath the complete artwork there.
Shouldn’t say artwork, it’s only an image, but they are artworks of students of mine,
so I like to use the right expression. And once we’ve applied that onto there. Just line
up our image, nice and carefully. Get it nice and straight on our section where it’s going.
And then it’s just push it down. That’s all there is to it. Just make sure all your edges
are down. And there you go. That’s how simple it is. I’m going to glue this one just onto
here. Now all we do is our Binder Medium again. And just run it through, so we go up over
the line where I think we’re going to have it fit. Nice and neatly down. Try not to paint
too much on the other ones. There’s no need for that. Just bring it right up to the edges.
Now once we’ve got it covering, right across. Don’t leave it sit too long. You don’t want
it to start to dry off. And I’m just going to line that one up. Straight down there.
And there we have another image glued to the board, which is gonna stay there permanently.
It’s that simple. I’d like to give you an important little tip if you’re going to be
photocopying images on paper to use for your collage. Use a laser printer. Do not use an
inkjet. Inkjet printers aren’t compatible with the Mediums you might use to make the
collage, such as your Binder Medium, and any glazing mediums you want to put over the top.
What they do is, they will pull the ink out of the image, smear across your collage, and
ruin the collage that you spent so long to put together. So try and always use a laser
printer where possible. Well there we have another use for your Binder Medium. Those
images are glued down and are gonna stay there nice and solid. I can put a clear glaze and
whatever finish I like on the top of this collage. But knowing those images aren’t going
to lift-off. So, look, I hope that’s been of some help to you. And until next time,
happy painting.
