How To Make a DIY Embossed Wall Plaque | Country Chic Paint Tutorial

hello everyone sorry about that we had
some technical difficulties with card I fired the camera person so we have a
replacement anyway I am Michelle from 211
Vintage Floral & Gift I’m also owner of Revived Relics I’m
here today to demonstrate for you some of the uses of country chic paint. 211
vintage is a premium retailer of country chic paint we are also a brand
ambassador and really love the product and hope you do too I did want to tell
you that if you do decide to purchase any of the products we’re
using here today you can order them online through country chic paint and
use the coupon code “211vintage10” to receive 10% off so I
first would like to start off by letting you know the products that we’re using
today again we’re taking a board like this and turning it into this for this
project we have used reverie it’s a limited edition color we really love
this nice bright color for a wall plaque on top of that we use tropical
cocktail again this is the all-in-one country chic paint this is the 4 ounce
we also are using texture powder natural wax antiquing dust country chic
wax brush country chic short handle brush is this a one and a quarter and a one and
a half inch I’m sorry and a chip brush this is not by country chic paint we
also are using masking tape along with a craft stencil this is something that you
could purchase at any art supply store it’s just your basic step so you can see
the thickness of it you do need a bowl and a spoon to measure and we’ll be
using sandpaper as well so I just want to also tell you about during this live
demonstration you do have the chance to win a country chic giveaway today they
will be giving away to one lucky viewer an oval paint brush which is my by far
my favorite brush if you can see it’s nice and thick it’s perfect for the
country chic paint it’s actually it’s turned into my favorite brush you’ll
also receive a texture powder like the ones we’re using today and your choice
of a 4 ounce paint all-in-one paint so keep tuning in in order to win this you
will need to leave a comment on the video to tell us what room in your home
you would like to make a black for or where you would put this thank you for
staying with us everything okay so we’re gonna get
started and I’m just gonna put this over here for now the first step you do want
to make sure that this is just a plain pine board is about 5 by 7 you don’t
want to make sure that you’ve sanded it well part sticking out so this is good
now we’re just going bare with the wood so the first coat is the revery and no
primary someone asks no primer on this one no not for this project okay now
your 4 ounce of paint retails you US retail is 895 and you can see how how
luscious that goes on it’s just a really great paint
what grit sandpaper someone wanted to know this is I believe a 220 but let me
double check a 120
this is my favorite sandpaper it really lasts by 3m so heads up there okay so
I’m just gonna finish painting this now when you’re painting with any pain
really want to let the brush do the work here a lot of people and some of the
workshops that I’ve done tend to like a really douse their paint brush with
paint for this project you can either some people I’m only using a four ounce
but if I was using a larger jar paint I would pour this into another container
rather than the potential of contaminating it since this is a very
small four ounce and I am using the small brush I am I’m just going to dip
right into the into the paint but it is it is wise to keep from contaminating
your paint by putting it into another container so as you can see here look at how well
that’s covering just after Isco love this paint all-in-one paint is self
leveling which means that see the brush marks here they do go away as it dries so I’m just gonna go over and finish
this up and the magic of demonstrations is that we have one of these that’s
already dry the country chic paint it does seem to
dry very quickly as you use it you’ll see that it’s dry to the touch fairly
quickly it is really recommended that you let it dry 24 hours before
proceeding to the next step I have tried to jump the gun there and been very
disappointed with my end result so I would urge you to wait the 24 hours give
it the time it needs ok so this is this is done now is it soap and water cleanup
yes its water cleanup in fact this brush I’m done with and I’m gonna just put it
right in my journal over here okay as you can see watch that clean I do for
the sake of this video have another brush that’s already clean but as you
can see here this is the dry page plus this is been kicking around a few days
so it’s a little dipping a little dust on it from the project but so we’re
gonna take and we’re going to apply our stencil to this now and we do that by
using the texture paint the texture powder I’m gonna take and use it’s going full so you want it
you want to add really it’s dependent on the consistency you want to achieve for
this project I am doing a one to one ratio so I’m gonna take the same dark
blue paint our reverie should say paint and we’re gonna put that in and then
we’re gonna make sex so um you can put this on a like a paper plate I’ve used I
try to keep it small when you’re doing the small project like this if you were
working on a larger project if you look at the revive relics page I did recently
do a a buffet I was able to have a texture paint to it to correct some
faults that ahead very happy with I love this texture paint it’s just really come
in very handy oh hi Donna thank you for joining us
Jessica McCauley from Ottawa awesome honey Jessica Roxie Mason is here hi
Roxie dawn Clapperton now remember in order to win your your prizes today we
want to see where you might want to put your complete plaque which room ready
room make a comment let us know which room you can win these stay Jan hunt from Manitoba does the texture paint fill in small
defects yes I can’t yes I’ve actually used it to fill in
small defects like I said the club a that I did had some issues with the
veneer that I didn’t want a totally replace I was able to use the texture
paint to add a little different texture to it Donna would put it in a garden
shed living area nice Jana would put it in a bedroom Oh I thought a bathroom would be nice too
okay so at this point the paint is dry on our board now we’re gonna take our
stencil fly it where we want it obviously your stencil could look
totally different it could be a large board you could you could take this and
I thought it would be neat to just do corners on a larger board it’s just
endless now you can also put this on a piece furniture if you were you know
making something you want to add some texture to or or pool effects so this is
where the where the tape comes in so I’m gonna just take the tape and put it here
I’m sorry I forgot to mention that I do also you do also want to use a little
putty knife in this case I just use you know plastic putty knife we’re gonna
take the texture paint and spread it on evenly on there as you
can see you don’t want the stencil to move so as you’re doing this you just
want to make sure that the stunt is not moving I’m gonna just go do that now and
here’s the fun part you lift it up and voila there we have it
so you want to let this dry again I would recommend to 24 hours to allow
that to dry this you can just wash off in the sink it will wash off yes it’s
wet hopefully by the time I get to its gonna be able to wash it off but at this
point I would kind of put that in the sink at home if you’re enjoying this
project so we have a dried version of our board just a reminder if you want
if you want to purchase any of these items that you see here that we’re using
use that coupon code and you’ll get 10% off on the country chic paint website
our next step here we’re going to use drop a whole cocktail so again
best to use another dish I’m not gonna do that this is the sake of this project
but now I’m going on with this duck much darker color much justice paint it just
going right over that luscious delicious I love it
okay so I’m gonna just cover up painting right over now you’ve waited 24
hours this has been drama so you need to wait for it to dry before
your steps done also step okay and you can get multiple uses like
you said from the stencil absolutely just a lot of squash it off yeah you can
also get a different effect with the texture if you make the texture a little
little like add more powder to the texture process you can make it thicker
and I’ve actually done a raised like take a like a stencil brush and get like
us a prickly look to it that’s a different play around with it it’s just
really fun this is Jackie whoas favorite color
Jackie whoa is she here today oh yeah he’s just tuning in Jackie
Jackie is co-owner of 211 vintage glad she’s tuning in today she’s not feeling
well so we hope that she gets better because we have a big event this weekend
that we need her here for I just want to long if you’re just
tuning in we are making a wall plaque using country chic paint products there
is price again what’s the brush the texture powder and
the four ounce all you need to do is leave a comment to let us know where
you’d put one of these a plaque like this in your home what you’d like to
have it in your home does the second coat of paint soften the first coat will
it bleed Christina wants to know Christina
good question as you can see when this is curing correctly correctly cured
meaning you’ve waited 24 hours to come back to this as you can see it’s not
bleeding through you may want to coats so as you can see there are some little
brush lines coming through for the sake of this project I did do two coats just
because I wanted to really clean you know finished finished coat as you can
see on here in order to do that you’re gonna want to
wait at this point you can wait a few hours what is dry to the touch to put
your second coat on again that’s that gets kind of tricky because sometimes
you’re reactivating the paint if you haven’t waited 24 hours you can use a
hairdryer that will work too so at this point we want this to dry add a second
coat but for the sake of this demonstration we are going to move on
we do have when it’s dried that has two coats of the tropical cocktail and this
is what we look what okay
so from here on target we’re gonna see now the reason to use the reverie in the
stencil to the dark color the one you’re seeing get it on here you can see for
the sample that I did I actually went through so you really it’s really on
choice how much you wanted to stress it I do like a little bit darker I do like
to leave a little bit of the tropical cocktail as well mention so do we have any Canadian folks in
today we see many Canadians I think so we have your Debbie snow from New York
oh my dubby Pam penning says these would be super cute above the kitchen cabinet
awesome yes and you could actually so one of these stencils come with
different designs so I mean if you did three of these how cute would that be a
little accent on the wall really endless and again people I thought maybe you
could make it larger with the square two corners and then you could even maybe
put a chalkboard in the middle and we and we do have uses with chalk country
champagne on how to talk after you guys another video okay so I’m just brushing
my hands here so the next step from here is to add our natural wax one thing I do
like about the country-chic is that there’s no really awful smell smell it
you smell it you can’t smell it this is not an Apple smell to it
okay so for this project I’m going to just add now now look at if you can you
can see see the difference in the colors there folks
all right darkens it and how nice it makes it bring us look at all that
detail someone else and your design new wax is great it’s really easy to use they’re protected it does protect it
yeah you know wax has a finish that doesn’t need to be reapplied it’s a
heavy use area but I use it a lot on table legs and you know it’s different
like products like this especially it’s really easy and then there’s so many
great colors of wax to that you could use if this is natural is just you know
clear but they do have different colors black gray as a favorite of mine I like
to prefer it over simplicity these antiquing is another big favorite
of the old wax I think Christina would love to try this paint
on her hideous tile backsplash in her kitchen oh boy how that stick I don’t
know what’s we’ll have to have to take a pic at back to find out more about that
backsplash right I can give you some pointers on how that can be achieved
okay I just want it up once again but you know that if you comment you can’t
have a chance to win this great the oval brush I love it the texture paint which
we’re using today and a 4 ounce on one all you have to do is leave a comment
like Christina did on where she’d like to use it Jim any other ideas folks
maybe you want to leave another comment on where this might be a good project to
use I’m so Cheryl in the show knows literally pectin is a Newfoundland I saw
my and she said that plaque would be nice in the bathroom nice yes I agree
actually this would match my i think these go because at this point I’m gonna
have particles and don’t forget the discount
oh the discount discount code right there have yourself ten percent on all
these products okay so at this point I have applied the wax I started to wipe
it off I didn’t want to do that I leave it a little liberal here at this
point I’m going to use the antiquing dust at this point okay and
the antiquing dust we’re just going to kind of brush it on see if we can get a
good look at this so I’m just gonna kind of brush this on liberally a little bit
on here again this is kind of a didn’t you get used to the nice thing about
this this part is you can rub off more if you don’t care for the look now
ideally you do want to wait 30 minutes for this to sit
I didn’t have the chance to do that today because my display that I made up
the wax is too cured I made it up too far in advance so I’m just gonna show
you on this video we’re just gonna let this the silk in now if you notice as
I’m putting this on with the brush you see how it’s turning darker they’re kind
of kind of turns muddy on the wax as you putting it on the longer it sits there
the more that effect takes place if you look at the tutorial that they put on
the blog post you’ll see more about how that changes in a photo of that
specifically but for the purpose of this video I am gonna I’m gonna wipe this off
now so the antique how to rub off after it
sets Christina wants to no no no well as you can see with this one of course with
with Ruben aggressive rubbing you’re gonna take it off but as it dries it
dries on Honus you don’t want to you do want to rub the most of it off the idea
the texture powder is too I mean on the antiquing dust is to add dimension to
your piece you know it’s gets into the raw wood areas it’s so the more I rub
off and for for the sake of this video I’m going to show you the half of it
really rubbed off so you see even as you you know put my elbow grease in the more
it comes off my finished product I chose to just I just want it a little whether
or not you like this stuff that’s really up to you and you it’s really you know
you could go completely white white base coat white stencil away and then put the
antiquing dust on and get a whole different effect with this with this
product so again there’s our finished product from there
I just put a little attachment on there and there you have it so remember in order to win the prize
today dude you need to leave a comment and let us know we’d like to put a
plaque like this in your home I’m going to give a few minutes and tell you a
little bit more about some of the products here again the paint is
if want cleans up in water as you can say this paint look it’s almost all
completely off texture powder anything you mix in here this does this is water
is to go clean up with water as well as your stencil so you just want to want
soak this little water and that’ll all come off one be careful when you’re
scrubbing it obviously the more details Archer stencil
does anyone have any questions about the process that I can answer for you before
