How to make a star card – home decor – mini book

my crafters it’s Hanna here welcome to
my channel today this is the project that I’m going to be showing you it
looks like it’s just a card but when you open it up you’ll see it’s actually a
I’m not quite sure what we’re calling a decorative piece a home decor piece I
guess you would call it so this is let me zoom out a little bit so you can
actually see all there we go so it will stand on your table like so and you can
see in this one I’ve shown you how you could add something to the middle I have
it done it on all of them yet because I’m still deciding what I actually want
to put in it because this is going to be going up in my craft room so this is how
it looks and yeah and then you close it back up so when you when it’s open you
can use the ribbon to hold it open just there and then the ribbon also is what
will keep it closed so this is what we’re going to that what we’re going to
be making all of the supplies and instructions will be in the description
and I think over on my blog as well which I have started a new vlog so that
will be there for you so let’s get started right so to start off with I’m
just going to explain what we need you’re actually gonna need 12 card bases
so I’ve got 10 there are just plain white and then two that are crushed
curry and these two are going to be on the outside that’s why they’re crushed
curry so stir off they’ll just fold those and whoops like so okey-dokey so you’ve
got your 12 card bases so you need six first six and then put the six to the
side for a minute so these six are going to be the outside I guess we’ll call it
so I would be a little bit easier to understand this is the thick whisper
white from Stampin Up so it is a sturdy okay so basically what’s gonna happen is
the Roy gonna get stuck back to back to back and then these last two are just
gonna get stuck on the one side and then the other side is gonna stay open and
then it will close together like so so then you’ve got these two that are the
coiler on the outside and then they’re contrast of the white in the middle I
thought that looked would look quite nice so that’s how that’s gonna work and
then we’ll move on to the inside cards so for those we’ll just pop those first
lock to the side so again in just six cards fold if those in half and then
what we need to do is full score even score the halves in half again so I mean
yes is each of these halves need to be
folded in half because this is the thick whisker why I don’t want to just fold it
so I’m gonna grab your scoreboard so you need to score it at so that’s 4 and 1/8
so half of that basically 2 inches and so if you score it at 2 inches from the
from everything you think doesn’t matter you’re just thinking it’s going to
inches from the edge yes that’s right no it’s not right two inches from the
score line because you want when it’s folded this needs to be shorter so this
needs to be the longer bit so yeah I know that probably doesn’t make sense
but two inches from the middle score line so that’s going to be 2 and 1/8 two
and ya doing 1/8 on each edge yeah and then it will fold the opposite way to
the middle score line so you’ll have an M shape like that yep so do that on all
of the other six cards so 2 and 1/8 two and – I’m gonna get this only one more I’m
gonna do the more with you so you can see what’s happening – 8 + 2 + 8 okay so
I’ve got said you just fold those in the opposite direction to the fair score
lines you’ve got em and again burnish those lines it’s a burner ship okay so now that
we’ve got those scored we can’t do some die cutting on them so what you need to
do is grab an oval die and then we just want to check which one is going to fit
so you can use this straight oval or um the scalloped one it doesn’t matter and
basically you want to make sure it’s gonna fit in the middle section and be
big enough either side of that middle school and see if we went for obviously
you wouldn’t use that one that is just way too small it would be pointless so
you’ve got that size one smaller so to scrape the straight scallop and is the
biggest one which is probably what I’m gonna go for so you just want to cut
that in the middle of each of the card blanks that I’ve got the three score
line so I’m just gonna do that and then I’ll be back okay so I’ve done those and
the roughly pretty much all in the same place it doesn’t have to be perfect
though it’s absolutely falling if it’s not exactly the same but basically
you’re gonna get something that looks like that so that’s that bit prepared so
the next bit that we want to just do a little bit of cutting with is the
designer series paper so I’ve got six pieces of the whole of lovely designer
series paper and these measure 8 inches by five and five eighths of an inch so
what we need to do with those is firstly now actually we’ll do the cutting firm
so off the edge of of each piece and when I cooked I’m doing a video on it
this is to night yeah we’ll go two inches off the edge of each piece I mean it just it doesn’t really matter
if it’s perfectly lined up because what we’re going to do that one’s gonna get
flipped over anyway so it kind of doesn’t really matter if um
cut it off perfectly but I just like to so – so that – yeah for brain did not
want to hurt then so then this one we’re gonna flip it that way
so you’ve got the stripes there and the same with the other ones so put two
inches four and then flick middle one so you’ve got that with the outside one so
you’ve got that and then of the last two same thing again you’re gonna cut it
down to two two and four and flick the outside – so
that’s how you get your paper to the right size so we’ve got our strips that
are that size and then sorry and then we’ve got our strips well not
stripes are pieces that are the four inches so for the four inch ones they
are going to be folded in half I said it doesn’t really matter on the order I
just like to when I craft that so crafts that’s pretty much all of the
preparation doing really we can start putting it together so it’s not too difficult really it’s
just a bit of scoring to get everything prepped and then you’re good to go so how about that how we are going to do it
is taking the first lot of parts the middle cards you’re going to put your
strips and all you need to think about is the two that are of the same pattern
at one on each side you don’t want those to be together so separate those and
that will make sense in a little bit so we’ve got none of the same pattern next
to each other that makes sense even though it’s you know the other side so
this one is there yeah okay then take your cards Oh putting them off and you
can stick this on the inside so I think on that one first
so actually we use Tumbo even though I’m not a tumblr girl
just so we can get it nicely wiggled into the middle so where you folded it
it’s just gonna sit in the middle of the card oops I was like so so just place it mid you try and get it
into that corner as best as possible I’m pushing that way just so it’s nicely
nested into that corner like so burnished on the outside so you’ve got
that and then basically do the same for this just make sure it’s nice and pressed oh yeah go
okay so I’ll do the rest and be right back okay so last one to stick it in actually found it’s a little bit easier
if you don’t and then just fold it over it tends to get in the right place on
its own there we go so those are all of those doing okay so
the next step is I think we will do the sticking on here while this is flat
because that would be easiest so for this I’m just going to use my fast fuse
so take a strip take a strip down each edge should just
fit nicely in that little panel like soo like that so then you just need to do
that for the rest of them so I’ll do that and be right back
so those are all those stuck on like I’m really excited for this project so
basically what’s going to happen is one of your cards this one is going to have
one of these stuck in the middle so actually what I’m gonna do first is find
the Oh which one went with which now I think it was the black and white one
who’s the opposite over that piece so that’s gonna fit in there this one hey
peaches so that’s gonna go in there put them together make it easy for myself
that was the stroke so this is why I said not to have the same pattern even
though it was back to back next to each other because you’re gonna they couldn’t
be flipped around so you don’t want to have the same patterns all back to back
so now I think we will stick the middle part in so basically this is going to be
bumped off pretty much I think to the edge let’s see yeah so you want it edge
to edge and that way you’ll cover that space where there is no paper that’s why
we just put it in half so it’s going to look like so so I’m gonna use tombow
again just so you couldn’t we go into place and it doesn’t matter
whoops well I suppose it depends on the pattern with it’s that way we’ll pull
that way up it’s saying just obviously make sure that
it’s well yeah you can’t really go wrong so we’ll start on one side I’m using wet
glue just so I can wiggle it into place if I need to wiggle so I’m just in one
side first making sure it’s flush with the edges then for the other side if we
just add some glue then close the card should pretty much be in the right spot
but you can just check it now you have that so you can open pretty much all the
way out and you could just leave it at that and have that as a card that on its
own is a gorgeous card we’re going to have some things hanging from the middle
and that could be your card done so if you wanted it to be this not basic but
just the simpler version you just have one card job done and then that’s it
just decorate the front which we will do in a moment and and that would be a
lovely card but obviously we’re not going to just leave it at that we’re
going to do the exactly the same thing for the rest of them I’ll just do one
more with you as you can see again how we line it up so edge to edge nicely so and then just close it over and then it closed the whole thing down
and then just ee ee checking double-checking that it’s lined up and
press it should all pretty much be nice and neat and lined up awesome so I will
do the rest and show you the next step one second okay I’ve done all of those
now so pretty much we are done what I’m just gonna do before we stick them all
together is just decorate the front and they’re actually no ignore that we’ll do
it afterwards because it yeah so basically all you need to do now is
stick them back to back to back to back to back so take yes well then you’re just gonna I think it
probably easier less using wet glue to do this standing up just so you can line
up the front and the edge like so press it down and just do the same for the
next time so long as you get one edge the rest is all kind of just for
interface because it’s the cards are the same height anyway so they can’t not be
in the right place once you’ve got one edge lined up just keep on going oops so just line you up that front edge
there and then just ease it into place worked so you’ve got the nice contrast
of colors there and then opens up so we’re gonna decorate the front and back
but the reason I decided to leave it till now because I’d want to add some
ribbon so we can close it up so you could run the ribbon all the way wrap it
around but I’m thinking when you open it a
little bit no I’m gonna do hose originally so just cut off a couple of
links of your ribbon so for the front I’ve just got another piece of the
designer series paper and then just a panel of soft sky so before I stick that
down I’m just gonna place my ribbon you press it down really well and add my
layer of no pool party so in its our sky so the designer series paper so when
it’s closed the front looks pretty like so then just flip it over and just line
it up with your first piece press it into that flue and then I’ve just got
another piece of pool party you could stick something on the back of
one if you wanted to but I’m just gonna leave it blank and you could write on
the back as well close up Mike like that and then when you open it flip
around then this can tie this end so it will stay together
I mean it’s set on your surface on your desk or wherever you put it so the last
thing that I’m not gonna do but I’m gonna explain how to do it is just
adding things to the little windows so you could either put something inside
the back here stick things here here all the way around or as I’m going to show
you is just add something hanging from here so I’ve got some of the silver
thread and a couple of ideas you could do oh let me just go and grab okay so
I’ve just got a one and a half inch circle and I’m gonna stick them together
with some of the third in the middle so just pressing my thread down into it and then line the other side then you’ve
got that that will hang down so then what you would do is your card or your
book whatever you’re gonna call it and stick it I’m just gonna use washi tape
because that I haven’t actually decided what I’m gonna do fully with this yes
sir but you would just use just normal and sellotape pop it through so that the
thread is at the corner of where it’s going to fold
oops sorry so it’s at that point there and then stick it down and then you can either just have it
hanging from the top or and as I’m going to do stick it at the bottom as well so
it will kind of spin a little bit so get it into place so these could be little photos if
you’ve got some you know like the passport sized photos you could just cut
a circle out and stick it on and it will spin or it could be just any punch-out
shape you like and then when you fold it up you’ll get a little peep of it in
there but so you can pop it back in so it will hang quite nicely so you can’t
see that like so so you could do that for each one have a different picture in
each one or you could match the pattern paper to the back or to the sides
whatever you decide to do if it’s a picture it could be you know a larger
picture and then you could write around here where the picture was what who’s in
the picture what you was doing etc so that is a little photo card book thing
I’m not really sure what to call it so I really hope that you’ve enjoyed this
project today and that you give it a try and let me know if you do there’ll be
instructions at the bottom in the description and also I think over on my
blog I’ll probably do some of the instructions there for you as well and
yeah thank you so much for watching and I’ll
see you next time bye
