How to Paint Stripes on Your Walls : How to Draw Paint Lines With a Laser Level

Hello, My name is Melissa Schenk and on behalf
of Expert Village, today I’m going to teach you how to paint a room with stripes. In this
clip let’s talk now about drawing our lines on the wall. Now, a couple of things you need
to consider. If you’re using just a standard level, you’re going to want to get the longest
level possible to draw the lines on your wall. A couple of different things you’re going
to need, in the previous clip we spoke about choosing the width of your stripes. How wide
do you want them apart whether it be four inches, six, eight, or ten inches. So once
you’ve figured that out, we talked about drawing little hash marks at the top of the wall.
If you are using a level, you’re going to also need to measure, again, in the middle
of the wall. It’s very important, and also at the bottom of the wall. You’re going to
want to have three marks in all parts of the wall where you’re going to put those stripes
so that you can match up your line in the end. If you’re drawing it with a level, of
course very important when you’re placing the level on the wall to draw those lines,
that you need to have the level centered so that that little bubble is in the center there.
Very important because, otherwise, you’re going to have crooked lines. Another thing
to keep in mind when you’re drawing lines, you might want to use a plumb, this is called
a plumb and what you would do is tape it to the wall, drop it and of course with the help
of gravity, it’s going to make a straight line for you with the little weight on the
end. So that too will help you with your straight line as you’re using your level. Now, I’ve
kind of abandoned these and I’ve opted for a laser level. So I didn’t, in this case actually,
physically draw the line. I kind of eliminated a step. Watch what happens to the wall when
I press this button. We have a line. And what you can do is you want to make sure, again,
just like this level, that your little bubble is right in the center so that it is level
so that you will get the straight line. You can even get, you can get a vertical line
or a horizontal line as well on here, but these are life savers. They will save you
a lot of time, totally worth the investment, but when you are then in our next phase, in
our next clip, I’ll show you how to tape the walls and this makes your job really so much
easier. Either way though it’s entirely up to you.
