Interior Design Tips: Pantone 2018 Colour of the Year – Ultra Violet

Another year another color of the year.
For 2018, Pantone has decided that Ultra Violet is the color that we’ll see
all over the place this year. They’re reasoning? It’s all about artistic
expression, spirituality and forward movement and since I’m all about
interior design, I’m going to give you the best ways to use this color inside your home. So if you love ultra violet or purple here’s how I would use it. I love
dark bedding in the wintertime. It’s almost psychological but I love the look
of warmth in the cold months (and this year has been a doozy) so I say bring on the
ultra violet sheets! I’d match or closely match the shams, sheets and duvet so that
it’s one deep, dark, sleep oasis. If your home is modern and contemporary with
mainly white or pale gray walls a showstopper sofa in ultra violet can be
a real jolt of excitement. Look for a sofa that has square edges and simple
straightforward lines. Oh and I love this look too. A large, tufted ottoman in a sea
of open space, clean lines and shades of heather gray. It really makes a statement. If you’re not afraid of color then layer
it on. Ultra Violet is a rich, royal purple and I would love to have a royal
purple sofa in a deep, lush velvet like this in an already dark and mysterious
room. Want even more drama? Keep layering! This time with patterns. Here we see
Ultra Violet with other jewel tones like blue, teal, fuchsia and old gold. But it
doesn’t have to be all dark and mysterious. Layer it with lighter
patterns like toile de joie, famous for lovely purples. And finally I love the look of wood
painted in Ultra Violet. Imagine a dining room with wainscoting or walls and trim
painted in this deep yummy color. Dim lighting, satin drapes and some velvet
covered dining chairs would be a beautiful way to incorporate this
luscious color. So here’s your take away… Ultra Violet is all about artistic
expression, spirituality and forward movement. Use it as a single showpiece or
envelop a room all around this one color. Either way you’ll love the lusciousness,
drama and warmth that comes with this color of the year. Thanks for watching

  1. Interesting. I've always found hard to use such intense colors. By the way that teal tone looks dangerously close to sherwin williams oceanside. Are you planning to do a video with that color?
