Interior Design Trends 2020 | 5 Home Décor Trends

Hi. Are you looking for
design trends for 2020? Are you wondering how to
update the style of your home? Well today I’ve got an expert with me
and we’re going to talk just about that. Hi, I’m Theresa Wellman with homeowner
experience.com a local San Jose, California realtor. [MUSIC] Today I have with me Thora Tam from 365
Staging who’s going to help us with the top five design
trends for 2020. So Thora, what would you say is the first trend
that you want everyone to know about this year? One of the large trends that we’ve been
seeing for the last few years is what we call “Inspired by Nature”. The
color marketing group, for the industry, says that the theme this year is
going to be called Seed of Life. So what it is, is a trend that incorporates nature and
a lot of people are very interested in environmentally friendly
materials, sustainable living. And so that goes into trends that
are for living and interior design. Perfect. Now, I know that is popular
with definitely the younger generations, but if you’re just trying to make
your home cozy and fit your style, what’s another really cool
trend that’s out today? I would say if you want something
really cozy, I like the dark and moody trend.
That is a lot of fun. Now if you’re afraid of dark
colors, take heart, uh, it is not like, making the
the house feel like, you know, the walls are coming in on you. It’s
actually a really cozy feeling. And uh, the house actually looks bigger when
you use dark colors essentially on the wall. Oh wow. Yes. The reason is
because we can’t really see the corners, so it actually seems like a bigger room. So I recommend using some
dark paint colors. Now another trend that
we’re seeing is, uh, the color marketing group color
trend, which is called Electrum. Electrum is a natural alloy and it’s
sometimes referred to as green gold. So this is a kind of a murky
color. It’s really beautiful, where it’s kind of got a
little gold and green to it. So if you put gold accents with
it, it’ll appear more gold. And if you put more green
accents, it’ll appear more green. There also is a big trend
with contrast, I believe. So what would you say in that area
is really up and coming for 2020. Okay. So this one is for the really
bold people. This one’s a tough one. It’s “Black and White”
So it’s very, very bold. If you have that kind of look in mind, one way to kind of soften it up and
also give it some sparkle is to use some metallic accents. I love black and white with
gold accents as well as silver. Okay, perfect. I mean, as
you see in our background, we got a lot of silver today.
That’s right. That’s right. And uh, if you know black and white is just too stark for you, I also recommend you could put
in like one other color, like bright red. Well, I think that’s turn number five
for us. This striking color, right? That’s right. So, we’ve lived with a lot of neutral
colors for many years. Um, the gray tones have been really in
however we’re seeing the opposite thing coming, which is using some
really bright accent colors. So, you may have
noticed that in fashion. You’re seeing some really
bold like, bright purples, fuchsia, cobalt blue, bright yellows. Well we’re taking that trend and
putting it into your interiors. So that doesn’t mean you have to put it
on your walls cause that’s kinda hard to live with. I would recommend trying some pillows or
a really cool accent rug or a couple of vases and few pieces of art and that
will tie it in and easily transform your neutral rooms, to something
that’s really trendy right now. Okay. Now the fifth design trend new for 2020 is pretty
exciting. Tell us about it. Yeah, so I’m excited too because
it’s my favorite color of
all the world and that is blue. So what are some quick ways you can
incorporate blue into your house if you aren’t going to stop? So if
you have a cool color tone, uh, with a lot of the grays, which
are really popular right now, uh, blue is amazing, but it also works really well with
the coming trends where the colors are warmer. So a classic blue
goes with everything. Perfect. Perfect. So have fun with that blue. If you’d like to learn some more ways to
integrate the new trends for 2020 into your home, definitely, I recommend you check out Thora’s video
with 365 Staging and she’s got a whole video just on that
topic. Thank you so much.
