I’d had my seventh baby and I was flat out
exhausted. I wanted to do something just for myself that
was fun… and I didn’t want to have that pressure on myself about competing in the
fine art world. This is the basement where all the magic started
with Kids Art 2 Canvas. One of the reasons I started the paintings was because our pediatrician
needed artwork for their walls. So, I thought, the best way to do that to appeal to all ages
was to take the art that we all do as children…and paint it. So, this was a painting that my son drew when
he was six. And I projected the original onto canvas and then painted from there. I think
if I were to look at the skyline of Pittsburgh and paint it, I’d worry a whole lot more about
doing it “right”. And what I’ve realized in this whole process is that there’s no right
or wrong way… to create art. We all drew this rainbow…we all drew the
stick figures. I think a lot of this imagery is archetypal. I think everybody remembers
a time when they drew this…and when they see it on a finished painting… it resonates
with them. These are two examples of the Zap it!™ process.
I scan this drawing in and then I have a paint program where I paint directly on screen.
Then we print on canvas and stretch over a gallery wrapped frame. Anyone can purchase
painting from our collection on the website, or upload their own art to be zapped. I’m Jessica Breedlove, and I’m the Founder
of Kids Art 2 Canvas™.
