Microsoft empowers Canadian creators with Surface and HoloLens at the Interior Design Show

We are here
at the Interior Design Show. It’s the largest design fair in Canada, and one of the top design
fairs in North America. We were lucky enough this
year to partner with Microsoft and really explore space with four
different architect and design firms. These spaces are really
cool and they’re centered around the themes of work,
play, live, and learn. The design firms are
fundamentally transforming the way that they do
the designing process. And so they’ve used Microsoft
HoloLens, and Dynamics 365 Layout to transform their two-dimensional
drawings and diagrams and bring them to life
in 3D in the real world. From a collaboration standpoint,
these Microsoft tools that are at our fingertips
now are incredible. In particular the Surface Book 2 has been an incredibly powerful tool for
us from a design standpoint. We use CAD, Revit and Rhino, and this is a machine that
can support all of that. Through the power of the
cloud, Dynamics 365 Layout has allowed us to really visualize
and capture images in HoloLens. And so were able to
virtually move things around to help design and provide these
amazing shipping container spaces for these four design agencies. Harrison Faye is a high-end
residential design firm. We wanted to create an
indoor space in the container where we would integrate
Microsoft technology. So we have the Microsoft Pros
and the Microsoft Studio. We have custom, laser-engraved
macarons for people to design their own graphic that will be
imprinted on a macaron or a lapel pin. And on the exterior, we have the Xbox area where we have Forza 4
which is a new Xbox game. SDI is a Toronto design firm. The commercial workspace
is one of our expertises. So WRKkit is basically a kit of
parts you do this personality test, and then it will tell you your ideal
configuration for your personality; and we’re going to change that
configuration every three hours during the show, so that you’d
be able to see it in action. Studio AC, is a Toronto-based
architecture and design firm. We use the Surface Studio, and
we use a lot of the Surface Pros and we utilized the Whiteboard
app with the idea being that we were trying to
create collaboration between pairs, groups, and individuals. Polymétis is a
multidisciplinary design firm working in architecture art
and landscape architecture. Microsoft loaned us HoloLens
and several tablets, which we used to explore
our ideas and visualize the container space, ultimately
arriving at our design through that technology. By sharing our technology
with these four design firms, we’ve been able to empower
them to unleash their creativity and imagination,
taking their dreams to reality in their own
unique concept spaces. For us to work not only
with those design agencies, but with Microsoft, and see
how we’re able to take an idea and through this technology come up with such an amazing outcome, it was a magical moment.
