Mural Project: The Experience & Timelapse

My name is Ambrice Miller. I’m originally from Birmingham, Alabama and I currently live in London, England. I was asked by Davidson to come back and do a mural. The mural kind of depicts the evolution of multiculturalism and diversity on campus. It’s a major project is centered in the Multicultural Center here in the Union and we’ve been working on it for about two and a half weeks. Isabel McLean and I have been working on it day in and day out. Obviously when you’re talking about an institution that’s seen as much change, social change, political change, etc. as Davison has and we’re established in 1837, it’s a lot. It’s a lot to put on either 27 foot wall which is the length of this wall here. I spoke with Tae-Sun Kim who’s actually the director of multiculturalism on campus. It’s kind of an inaugural position and we actually had a dialogue about what we should include what we should not. She really gave me artistic license to just do whatever you know I saw fit, what worked with composition, what work to actually tell a story not just kind of a collage of different images. So the final product is what you see behind me [Music playing]
