Pittsburgh 360: Mac Miller’s Mural

(upbeat music) – This is the Mac Miller tribute mural. A Pittsburgh legend and a Pittsburg icon. A famous artist around the world but also a friend and alumni of MLK Mural Project. (upbeat music) My name is Kyle Holbrook,
I’m executive artist of MLK Mural Project. We have a curriculum that takes each step in creating a mural, and relates it to a
future and possible career within the arts. (upbeat music) We wanted to put Mac, Malcolm
is what we called him then, right next to the work that
he did with his own hands. We worked on this mural for
about two, two and a half weeks in the summer of 2008. He didn’t really like painting that much, he was always joking and laughing. When I first met him, I
knew he was gonna be a star, I had conversations
with him about how much I believed in him. He never forgot that. He said it was really impactful for him, and to hear him say that, was really impactful for me. (ubpeat music) We ask people to come and
write words, messages, lyrics, anything that Mac meant to them, they all have their own
personal relationships. – He’s just very diverse, very different. You can’t really categorize his music. It was important for
me to finally come out to Pittsburgh and see where he’s from. – Everybody in my high school
would throw back on Mac, it was all about having a Pittsburgh kid who grew up and made it big. – I think that he really repped Pittsburgh more than anyone else. I wanna let him know,
he’ll never be forgotten. (upbeat music)
