So the light bulb if often, one would think the easiest, but it’s kind of the hardest thing in the house. Because light really affects everything in your home. From your mood to. Absolutely does. To the look of your decor. Absolutely does. So for me I like to make sure that, and I’ll show you the difference here, kind of see the difference in these lights. This is a much warmer relaxing color, this is a much cooler, brighter white blue light. For me, I like putting these in my living areas, making everything warm and inviting and relaxing, especially in the bedroom as well. And golden. Exactly. Kind of a golden glowy look. A bright blue light like this washrooms, garages, where you need kind of a brighter light so where you can vibrantly see colors up close and things like that. Right. But again, lighting can really affect your mood, also even the shape of bulbs. So here instead of doing your typical frosted bulb, which wouldn’t look so pretty, you do a clear one. I love clear bulbs. And it looks much, much prettier. And if you have a light fixture where you can appreciate it of course, it’s much prettier. Exactly. Also, LEDs, most people. (audience applauding) Most people think LEDs just come in like ugly bulbs, but they don’t. LEBDs, LEBDs, LED blee, ba dee, da bee bees, they come in so many different types of shapes now where it doesn’t even look like an LED. That does, I was gonna say. Looks like an old filament bulb. I’m really shocked that that’s an LED light. So they take way less power and they last way longer. Yeah, they last forever. It’s kind of freaky. Usually like 27 years, longer than you’ll probably be in that home. Now with curtains. Move over here? Yep, I think this is also kind of a spot where people get it wrong sometimes. A lot of times people just want to hang their curtain right here above their window. Kind of makes sense. But what that does is it makes your window look smaller. It makes the room look shorter, too. It makes the room look shorter. So what I like to do, my rule of thumb is usually at least a foot if not a little more. Above the frame. Exactly. Because it draws your eye up and it gives the illusion that your ceilings are taller even if they’re not. Right, right, right. So see, it make that window. This looks so much better. Yeah, it made the window look bigger, it make the wall look taller. (audience applauding) Rugs. Okay. So a lot of times people don’t really know what to do with a rug as far as placement. So I’m a firm believer. It’s a little large for this space here, but I don’t really like putting the rug under the sofa. It gets dusty, you can’t vacuum it. I like having it usually about right at the edge. If you have, like if this is kind of your walkway here through a room. Right, right, right. Do do it under the sofa. Because when you have a rug in the area that you’re walking the most, you’re gonna wear that rug down. Ah, that’s a good point. And your rug’s not gonna last as long. One final tip for me is designing shouldn’t be hard. Think of it as an outfit. You know, you want to buy, if you’re on a budget, a nice expensive dress and then you accessorize it with fun things, so do dress neutral, so do your sofa neutral. That’s a great tip. So that way, you can accessorize it with your bling, with different colors as the seasons change and you’re not constantly replacing the pricier piece in your house. That’s true. I will say I have the same sofa that I had years ago. Yep, exactly. I just keep rotating the pillows, exactly. New rugs, new pillows, new throw and it looks like a whole different one. And make sure that you get a sofa, I Scotchguard mine because I live with a pit bull, but I also make sure that I chose one where I could take the covers off and clean them. Exactly. One, yes, and one tip with this sofa is a lot of times cushions are attached to the sofa. Try to steer clear of that. No, but no. Try to stay clear of that. You got to be able to flip that around when you get the stain on it. Exactly. (audience applauding) (jingling)
