Risk vs X Games Graffiti mural – Live at Soundset Festival

My name is Risk, I’m here with Monster
Energy and X Games and I’m painting at Soundset. Growing up in Los Angeles most of my
graffiti career was in Venice Beach, so graffiti and skateboarding to me in Los
Angeles seems like it’s part of the same thing. Like I came off of skateboarding
like half pipes and all these guys started doing street skating so when we
were painting they’re like jumping on tables and all this stuff. It’s almost
part of like the same culture founded in a separate culture, so I don’t even know
how in other places it might be a separate culture, in Los Angeles it’s
the same. You know as far as companies like Monster Energy and X Games and any
corporation sponsoring graffiti artists I think it’s dope as long as the
graffiti artist is a real graffiti artist like I think it’s wack when they hire their
art department and say “hey, recreate graffiti” but when companies like Monster
Energy and X Games like hire real dudes I mean that’s what we need obviously
we dedicated our life to this so the fact that they support us is pretty
special. I think the new crop of artists is amazing you know with social media
now there’s so much instant gratification so it took us two months
to see other people’s art, we sifted around the world in photos. Now you just
look on Instagram or something you see it immediately so it raised the level of
like you know survival of the fittest and that whole thing like the level of
art is at a whole ‘nother level now. If you’re at the X Games, come check out my piece, it’ll be there in July.
