I feel that Miami is drawn skywards and not drawn to the earth I think this is good good for poetry, for the head My reference point,
apart from Burri and Fontana who I felt were my fathers,
my teachers Mela Duccio da Buoninsegna were those great men, great painters from Siena,
where red was made the most beautiful red you could ever see As art has always been,
what Leonardo da Vinci said, shadow and light and my folding is a dialogue
betwixt shadow and light Art should be unsettling Art is not a message of beauty An artist is a being given to art a common mortal and art wants to find a body to inhabit My folding of colour and the colour folds yet it is not supposed to fold through its own convexity,
its own volume it takes on a different light
and becomes a fold Without colour painting could not exist Colour is in the mind I hope that those who look at my work do not just look at a red fold or a black fold but rather they journey
within this structure of these nooks and crannies. What is inside? Some say: inside is where the mystery lies I said: no, my mystery is not there, your mystery is there.
