Flooring, for me, it’s all about beautiful
rugs. Rugs are like art, for that fifth wall – which is the floor. So you could really
find things that speak to your design personality. Whether you want something traditional, you
could go for something like a persian rug, a beautiful historic piece, like a really
grand aruba. That kind of thing can actually look really perfect with contemporary furniture
too. Or you can find things that are very modern and very unusual as well. I think we’re still at the tail-end of the
reclaim. Everything reclaimed and the reclaimed wood so obviously the wide plank reclaimed wood flooring is still definitely “in”. But I think there’s also a little bit of a renaissance
towards large format stone tile flooring. So people are getting a little bit more daring
with some of their kitchens or living rooms. They’ll accent it with carpets or area rugs
and go with a stone floor. A fumed white oak in a wide plank with a matte
finish – I love that we’re doing matte finishes because I feel like – again they’re much more
honest and when they wear down, they rub – they show the story. The story of the people living
there and they’re just much more livable than these high gloss sealed finished that we’ve
been working with for the past decade. That’s generally what we’re seeing and of course,
things like herringbones and chevrons are also coming back on trend. The key to those
things is that you need be really careful with them in small spaces because they can
be overwhelming. It’s not that they can’t work, but if the space is really broken up,
it’s generally better to stick with a straight plank.
