United States Flag Wall Hanging Made From Poplar

Hello and welcome to Donald Vlogsifys woodshop, I’m your host Donald Matthews. Also known as Donald Vlogsifys. We’re working on the stars and bars today. Made out of Poplar. It’s going to be a wall hanging. Come along, watch my video. See how I’m doing it. Yes siree… And I’m sure it’s going to be a popular poplar flag. God bless the USA! Amen. Okay, we got the Stars. Fairly well ready to go. Now I’m gonna cut the bars. I’m gonna cut these a little bit oversized. I need 12 inches. I’m gonna cut them 12 and a quarter in length. That way I can… trim them off. I have enough waste if you trim them off and square them up when I get the thing put together. I got my stop-block set up here. That’ll give me a 12 and a quarter here. Now for longer ones, which I’m cutting at nineteen and a half inches here. Again, that won’t be the finished size. After I get it glued together, I’ll trim it to square it there. Now we’re starting to come together. These…. I’ll rip and make them a little bit shorter. That’ll give me my seven bars on this side of the flag field and… My six for down here. All right. So after mass calculations, trial and error, and just… Redneck ways. I need the bars to be that thickness. So I made this gauge to set the fence up beside the saw blade. And, we’re gonna do some cutting. Well, I am. Okay, so I’ve got these sections glued up. Now… Since here… I’m going to be gluing end grain to end grain. I’m gonna cut a slot with a router on each side here. run a piece of wood in the center. To just kind of help stabilize it there a little bit. It’s a wall hanging… It’s not gonna be under a lot of stress, but still it’ll make me feel better. First I’ve got to kind of square up that edge there a little bit. So we’re going over to the table saw. And most of y’all already know how putting on shellac works. Especially spray shellac. So I’m gonna leave this video here. That’s about the end of it. All except putting a couple more coats of shellac on. A little bit on the back and… Give it to the man. Hopefully I’ll be able to do that for him Monday. But anyway, thank you for watching. I hope you enjoyed this project I sure did. Learned a few things along the way as with every project and… That’s the way it should be. Thank you for watching. Did I say that already? I can’t ever remember. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, the links are down below in the description. There’s a patreon link down there if you’d like to support me… through that.
