Vancouver Interior Design Show West 2013

Vancouver Interior Design Show West 2013

It’s been an amazing year. We’ve broken all
attendance records, literally. I think yesterday we were pretty close to
where we finished last year at the end of the show..
so huge traffic, happy exhibitors. 250 to 300 or so companies here having a great
time. I love it here, it is such a creative atmosphere,
there’s so many different sort of genres. It just gets all of the juices rolling.
it’s a great opportunity for us to be a part of it and future masters allowing this to
happen with a lot of students. and it’s really like good insight into the
industry we are about to step into I guess. I’ve been doing this show for about 10 years
and I love it, and what I want to do every year, I try to do something a little different.
So this year we don’t have a booth, we are just sort of all around and I’ve brought a
bunch of babies with me that we have to look after.
What I like about the show is everybody is doing different things, but I always like
to be a little bit out there. I just look at furniture a little bit differently.
So, I give them little faces, and little smiles. This event has been all about collaboration
for us. Uhm, we are showing pieces with the uh That we have developed with other designers.
Like this wall here, we developed with Rollout. They do custom wallpaper, and they’re great
friends of mine, and they’re great designers as well.
and so they’re finishes are with our hardware installation – it’s turned out amazing.
So our project was designed to use the least amount of materials to create maximum strength.
We designed this stool as well so that it could be approached from all sides for that
reason. So it’s kind of a barrier between the Kitchen
and the Living Space, but it can be interacted with in any way rather than being unidirectional.
This is our first show in Vancouver, we actually launched in Paris a short while ago at Maison.
Our philosophy is live luxury. It should be every square inch of your space
your state of mind should be luxurious and our product should help to facilitate
that. What we did for the show is we brought some
uh these are scale models that were designed by students
at the Rhode Island School of Design. They work with the Steinway Custom Piano Department
in Steinway, New York. and basically this is the Piano re-imagined.
So these.. We have 8 different designs that were done
by students last year. and um, you know, it’s really a new take on
what the possibilities of the Steinway could be.
These are an assortment of outdoor seating concepts we have just for gathering around
in the evening for a fire. We call this piece the social circle.
So it’s just about gathering. Right? Be it at a Dining Room Table.
I really enjoy building Dining Room Tables for that same concept.
It brings people to them to gather around and just enjoy people’s company.
We signed exhibitors..we signed them right on site for next year.
You know..Real Estate. Location, location, location so to speak, so we always have to
keep the show fresh every year though, so do try to move our exhibitors around,
but they book early for next year and we’re certainly excited, and we’re already thinking
about what we’re going to do in 365 days.
